Common questions
How do I get my transactions into mSpendVanta?
Sign in to your bank's or credit card's website and look for Download, Export or Statements near your account's transactions. Choose OFX or QFX (sometimes labelled "Quicken" or "Microsoft Money") if you can — these identify the account, so mSpendVanta sets it up for you and picks up your current balance. Then click Import at the bottom of mSpendVanta's sidebar.
My bank only offers CSV files. Can I still use them?
Yes. The first time, you'll match the columns — date, description and amount — and mSpendVanta remembers them for that account. CSV files don't include your balance, so use OFX or QFX where you can.
Will importing the same transactions twice create duplicates?
No. Downloads can overlap; transactions you've already imported are recognized and skipped.
Why are some transactions waiting in Unmatched?
Unmatched holds new transactions that no rule recognizes yet, so nothing slips through. Give each one a vendor and category and save it as a rule — next time, similar transactions are categorized automatically.
Why doesn't my iPhone show my data?
The iPhone app shows what you've imported on your Mac, synced through iCloud. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on, and give it a few minutes after importing. The iPhone app is read-only — importing and editing happen on your Mac.
How accurate is the end-of-month balance?
It's an estimate. It starts from each account's last downloaded balance, then subtracts the bills paid since that balance was taken and the unpaid bills still due this month. Importing recent files keeps it close to your real balance.
How do I restore my purchase on a new Mac?
Sign in to the Mac App Store with the same Apple Account and open mSpendVanta — your purchase is recognized automatically. If it isn't, open mSpendVanta › Settings and click Restore Purchases.
How do I change or cancel my subscription?
Open mSpendVanta › Settings and click Change Plan to move from Monthly to Annual or to Lifetime. To cancel, use your App Store account settings (in the App Store, click your name, then Account Settings, then Manage next to Subscriptions). If you switch to Lifetime, cancel your subscription first so you aren't charged again — mSpendVanta walks you through it.
Can I try mSpendVanta before buying?
Yes. mSpendVanta opens with a fully set-up sample — a year and a half of transactions, budgets and bills — so you can explore every feature. New subscribers can also start a one-week free trial.
Is my financial information safe?
mSpendVanta never asks for your bank passwords and doesn't send your data to us. It's stored on your Mac and in your own private iCloud database. See our Privacy Policy for details.
